Meet Dr. D.

"He has showed you, O man, what is good;  And what does the Lord require of you  but to do justice, and to love kindness,  and to walk humbly with your God?"

-Micah 6:8

We have entered a period of history called the “Post Modern World” in which we have come to the realization that science alone is unable to answer all the profound questions of life and existence.  If the gifts of faith and reason are truly of God then these gifts cannot be in conflict but must, in divine wisdom, be designed to work in concert.  Nowhere is this better seen than in the world of disability.  The world of disabilities crosses all cultures, faiths, political affiliations, and socioeconomic strata.  People with childhood-onset or later derived disabilities are simply people like you and I.  It is too easy for those of us who are temporarily able-bodied to see these fellow citizens of ours as a different population.  However, people of all ages with and without disabilities carry the same desires for love, acceptance, fulfillment, and intimacy wherever the sun may rise, shine, or set.  It is time to convert from a world of them and us to a world of just us.  It is in caring for people with disabilities that I have learned to love myself with all my many imperfections.  This gift has enabled me to see the face of God in the people I serve.  I have learned that one cannot care for a person with a disability outside of their family and community.  It is this gift that has provided me the opportunity to be a witness to the incredible gift of life in all its forms.  Each day I am stunned and humbled to share this life with God’s creation.  God’s peace and joy be with you in your walk through this magnificent life.
